Emma Freel

Hello! My name is Emma Freel, and I am a graduate from the University of Rhode Island with a B.F.A. in theater, with a concentration in acting. I have been involved in the performing arts for as long as I can remember, and have always had a great passion for performing. After graduating from college, I have spent my time expanding my career, both as an actor and a teacher for the performing arts. Performing is all about learning how to engage with your mind and body to either develop a character based on text, feel confident to put on a performance, or just to have fun and unlock your inner clown!

Whether you’re an experienced actor or just looking to learn something new, I believe I can share my passion with you to create something beautiful, and allow you to learn the aspects of performing that you can use in your everyday life! If you choose me to be your teacher, whether you want to study a monologue for an audition, learn the art of clowning, or want to understand how to delve into the complexities of Shakespeare, I believe I can be your guide to an unforgettable teaching experience. I believe the theater is one of the most beautiful art forms available to us, and I hope I can give you the tools to appreciate it as much as I have.

Emma’s teaching philosophy:

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that no matter the skill set, anyone can gain so many valuable lessons from learning the art of acting that can be applied both on and off the stage. My core values when it comes to teaching are enthusiasm, patience, effective communication, and passion. My job as an instructor is to allow my students of any age to feel as comfortable in themselves as possible, so as to create a safe space that allows my students the freedom to creatively express themselves. It can be nerve-wracking to be vulnerable enough to step outside of your comfort zone, and my job is to create a connection with my students so they don’t stray away from pushing the envelope and really dive into the craft. I always create an upbeat and fun environment for my students, as well as making sure they know that the process takes time and patience.
